Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in Waltham Forest.
Providing professional mental health care for children, young people and families.
About Dr. Kate Boyd
Welcome to my practice.
I am a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with 14 years of experience in supporting children, young people and families with complex emotional and mental health difficulties in a variety of settings, including the NHS (CAMHS) and primary and secondary schools.
I trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, where I am now a Associate Lecturer, teaching post-graduate child psychotherapy trainees.
I offer short and long-term psychotherapy to children, teenagers and young adults, up to the age of 25, who are facing a broad range of emotional and behavioural challenges - from everyday struggles, to deeper, more complex issues. I also offer guidance and support to parents.
As an accredited member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), I adhere to their ethical standards. The ACP is regulated by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) for healthcare.
My Approach
Central to my approach is a commitment to providing a safe and supportive space in which children and young people can be helped to express and make sense of their thoughts and feelings. I adapt sessions to the individual and their developmental stage, encouraging the child or young person to communicate in a way that feels most comfortable for them - whether that is through play, drawing, movement, talking, or withdrawing and staying silent. In building a relationship with a child or young person my aim is that they will feel heard, respected and understood. I also believe in working collaboratively with parents to support their child’s progress.
